ABOUT

Gabrielle Sargent is a Maltese soprano and recent Royal Northern College of Music scholarship graduate. She studies under the tutelage of Linda Richardson. In 2020 she graduated from the Edinburgh Napier University with a First Class Honours in Music and was awarded the University Medal.

Gabrielle is thrilled to join internationally renowned tenor Joseph Calleja in concert later this year. In July, she performed a new work written for soprano, cello and flute by Dr. Katrina Burton in Ronchamp, France. In 22/23 Gabrielle thoroughly enjoyed working with Opera North on their prestigious Chorus Mentor Programme. Late last year, she joined the Chorus for a semi-staged production of Madama Butterfly at the Bridgewater Hall conducted by Sir Mark Elder. She was also chosen as a Clonter Opera Emerging Artist where she took part in the Masterclasses and Spring Opera Showcase with director Giles Havergal and music director Martin André. She thoroughly enjoyed singing with the York Guildhall Orchestra in concert with conductor Simon Wright.

Gabrielle made her opera debut in 2016 as Papagena in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. She has since performed solo roles as Nannetta Falstaff, La Comtesse Cherubin, Elisetta Il Matrimonio Segreto, Despina Cosi Fan Tutte, Béatrice Béatrice et Bénédict (all RNCM Opera Scenes), Belinda Dido and Aeneas (ENU) and Fairy Spirit Cendrillon (Fife Opera). Chorus work includes Eugene Onegin (ESO), L'Elisir d'Amore, La Clemenza di Tito and Aleko (all BOV Opera Festival). She has also performed as a soloist in an RNCM semi-staged production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen.

She was a soloist with the Edinburgh Napier Chamber Choir, the Edinburgh Napier Chamber Orchestra and regularly invited to perform song recitals at the Scottish Arts Club and St Cecilia’s Hall in Edinburgh. Gabrielle was appointed choir leader for the Morningside United Choir in Edinburgh.

Gabrielle has participated in masterclasses with several renowned artists, including Dame Ann Murray, Susan Bullock, Malcolm Martineau, David Owen Norris and Matteo Dalle Fratte.
